September 11 2001 – 9/11

I am going to write about the 9/11 or the September 11 attacks. The 9/11 was a terrorist attack against the USA lead by Al-Qaeda. On the morning of 9/11 terrorists hijacked four commercial jet liners.  Two of the planes were flown into  the Twin Towers of the World Trade Centre (one plane went into each tower), killing everyone onboard the plane and 2606 in the buildings, the reason so many people died in the buildings is because they collapsed within 2 hours of being hit.  When the towers collapsed, some of the fire-fighters and police were killed as nobody expected the towers to collapse.  The third plane crashed into the Pentagon killing 184, 125 in the building and 59 in the airplane. The fourth plane crashed into a field near Shanksville in rural Pennsylvania because some of the crew and passengers tried to gain control of the plane, they were all killed.

The United States responded by launching ‘war on terror’, they invaded Afghanistan, as that’s where the Al-Qaeda terrorists were hiding. The terrorist America wants the most is the head of Al-Qaeda the terrorist organisation, Osama bin Laden, he is believed to be hiding near the borders of Pakistan and is still being looked for today. The purpose of the war is to destroy the terrorist organisation Al-Qaeda. New Zealand has sent troops to help in the “war on terror”.

The world remains on high alert for terrorist attacks; airport security around the world has been tightened up because of this. There are a lot more measures in place, such as shoes getting scanned in the States, no drink bottles, Personal items need to go into plastic bags before you board, and there are more air Marshalls on flights. Anyone who even jokes about bombs or terrorism is considered dodgy and will likely be arrested at the airport. This also applies were large groups of people gather e.g. Disneyland. We know this because when in I was in the USA and i went to Disneyland this man joked about having a bomb (thinking he was funny), so security staff held him up till police arrived.
